In September 2010, the Belvoir Wassailers – the Belvoir Castle's own male voice choir – was reformed at the request of the Duchess. Directed by Robert-John Edwards, the Belvoir Wassailers performed at the castle's annual "Belvoir by Candlelight" celebration in December 2010. The choir is currently working on a variety of new material, including popular, folk, seasonal and commemorative music.
Brought up in Llangollen, home of the international musical Eisteddfod, music has always been a huge part of Caroline's life. As a violinist, she played with numerous orchestras including the National Youth Orch of Wales and the North Wales symphony orchestra, under Sir Charles Groves. She was church organist and choir mistress in Llangollen, which is where she first started conducting. A member of the internationally renowned Sirenian Singers, she has travelled and competed all over Europe, winning the Pavarotti choir of the world in Llangollen before marrying and moving to Philadelphia, USA. Here, she sang with the University of Pennsylvania choirs and also the cathedral choir before returning to London, working as a free-lance contralto. She has played roles in various musicals and has won awards for her many Gilbert and Sullivan performances. She moved to Cambridgeshire and had a thriving teaching practice, as well as conducting the Hemingford Ladies choir for 12 years. She currently sings and directs a chamber choir, the Tapestry singers (www.TapestrySingers.org.uk), based in Huntingdon. Her 2 children were both choristers and her daughter is now studying to become an opera singer. Having recently moved to Leicestershire, she is delighted at becoming the Music Director of the Belvoir Wassailers.
